Juno's radiant bridal apple-tree (original)

Original pendant inspired by Roman religion and the Apollonian cult.

Juno/Hera is the divine protectress of the community and family, in both sovereignty and fertility, goddess of cyclical renewal of time and of birth ; queen of the gods, associated with the sky. She is wife to Jupiter and the mother of Mars. Her name is cognate with iuvenescere meaning "rejuvenate", because as a goddess of fertility, she is rejuvenating the bloodline. Iuven- is related to Latin aevum and Greek aion through a common Indo-European root referring to a concept of vital energy or fertile time. She had the epithets of Pronuba and Cinxia ("she who looses the bride's girdle").

Her wife and queen status is shown by her diadem on her portrait in the center of the pendant.

The apple-tree in the inner circle was an important orchard tree in ancient Greece, it was associated with love and marriage, as Gaia gave Hera the golden apple-tree at her wedding with Zeus.

The way the outer circle is disposed around the inner one creates the shape of a wedding ring, symbol of marriage since the Romans.

The outer circle is crowned by the sun, because its said the light from Hera's golden apples from her garden in the west is what causes the golden orange glow of sunset, that being the time that marriages are consummated. The sun coming out of, or entering in the ring shape gives the meaning of marriage (ring) bringing new life (rising sun) as Hera is the one that brings to light the new born, or penetration of sun (male) into earth (female), with the couple's fertility (apple tree) protected by Juno/Hera in the center.
